Our Goals

Cambium Initiative is a public charity which sees electrification as the primary means for isolated communities to:

  • Improve Education Opportunities

  • Combat C.O.P.D

  • Mitigate Deforestation

Even as developing countries work to establish larger energy grids to service burgeoning cities, isolated communities are increasingly left behind. These people have few choices; harvest local trees or pay exorbitant prices for fuel in order to provide the energy needed for cooking, heating, and lighting. Around the world some 1.2 billion people still live without power, and over 80% of them live in rural communities. There is much work to be done.

Our Projects

Cambium Initiative501(c)(3) is currently exploring several projects in the Upper Nubri valley of Nepal. These projects include the repair of a micro-hydroelectric facility in Trok, the installation of a new micro-hydro facility in Namrung, and the buildout of sustainable grid infrastructure for the Buddhist monastery at Serang in an adjacent valley.
